Right; that was an update from 3.4.2 to 3.4.3.

Yes; gcc4 is installed as, surprisingly enough, gcc4, so you can just use
that instead of gcc.

Probably.

Depends on how brave you are and or how reliable you need to be. Code might
compile apparently fine but be created slightly wrong, or the new compiler
may expose bugs in the code you're building that just happened to work
before. (This happened a lot with going from gcc 2.x to 3.)
