No doubt others use emacs. It's very useful to be able to use terminal-based editors because (a) they are portable and you can reasonably expect to find them on an Unix-type system you use, (b) they work over slow dial-up links, and (c) they work in a single-user or rescue type environment when there may be no GUI-based editor available.
