Firewire support has been historically flaky. Sometimes it
gets so bad, we can't even enable it..

For FC2 it blew up for folks that didn't even have firewire
devices, just a controller on their motherboard.

There seems to be some activity upstream lately toward cleaning
up a lot of that code, so who knows, it may get better over time.
