Hi,

is it possible to create a DVD+R with mkisofs and cdrecord?

Yes, it is possible. However, there is a bug somewhere (libraries? kernel? cdrecord?) when DVD+R media is used (any other type of media such as DVD+RW, DVD-R, or DVD-RW works fine).

The bug is that with some burners, DVD+R media is not fixated at the end of burning. Such DVDs are not readable in anything. Good news is that you can fixate them after the fact and they will become readable. Some people reported that additional invocation of "cdrecord -fix" works, some reported that it doesn't work. Fixating disk under Windows works every time (for example, in Nero go to disk info, it will show that disk is not closed and will offer you option of "closing" it, another name for fixation).

So if you already burned some DVD+R media, don't throw it into garbage yet. All it needs is fixating and it will become readable.

I don't know if k3b has the same problem with DVD+R media as mkisofs and cdrecord do.
