I am pretty sure that I installed mapivi a little while ago, but I am unable to open it with the commend mapivi. Also, it does not appear in my menu. How can I check if it is installed on my system? A google for 'linux check if installed' did not return relevant results. I am on core 3 with KDE.

From a term window, try "locate mapivi".
