is my perl broken?

I'm trying to install the GD perl lib on FC3.

It fails the make test (see output below.)

Some of the README's in the install dir lead me to beleive that my I need to install perl from source.

Can someone confirm this for me?

Are there any issues with compiling perl from src on FC3?

Thanks
