Hi dear IP wizards :)
After switching from Fedora Core 1 to Fedora Core 3 by reinstallation
and undating all packages via 'up2date' I cannot connect to the internet
anymore:
Determining IP information for eth0...: failed
This is kind of ironic since I was praising loudly and to everyone
Linux and Fedora (or better those guys assembling it), the modern
times and especially ... THE INTERNET ... since this time, the
installation went sooo smooth: I was able to install and update
everything directly via http, without having to buy CDs or burning
them first on my own :) ( While updating I had a walk in the park and
stared at green trees at the place of the screen - I hope I didn't miss
something important? )
My cable and video card are ok, since I am able to send this email
with the same computer and connection using Knoppix ( my sincere
thanks go to Klaus Knopper, the editor of Knoppix, for saving me all
the time, money and anger it takes to have to go to the next internet
cafe; to the Open Source community of course; and to Marcel Gagne
for his book "Moving to Linux - Kiss the Blue Screen of Death Goodbye!",
saving me from some other guys control of my purse and computer -
and providing the Knoppix CD :)
I tried to find a solution on my own by searching the internet for
similar cases, but couldn't find any working help. Or better: couldn't
make any sense out of those things I found, beeing a total ignorant
concerning problems like this. Nevertheless I append all kind of
information which was mentioned as helpfull in those postings ( ...and
which unfortunately doesn't say anything at all to me - any good
booktip etc. to educate myself ?? )
I thought, it might be helpful to have the same information for the
case of using Knoppix. I therefore very stupidely executed exactly the
same commands I tried for Fedora while using Knoppix ( which doesn't
have any problems to use DHCP and to connect to the internet. )
