While not free - you can get fonts from http://www.myfonts.com/

For Linux, get the ttf versions.
The fonts I have purchased from them work extremely well in Linux - Helvetica, Palatino Linotype, and some lesser known fonts from smaller font houses.


If you want some free fonts - you can use the MS Core Web fonts.
I have them in an rpm you can just install -
