Strange Named Behavior

I noticed a number of unresolved hosts in maillog. Not all but more than
usual.

I did a "dig" and received the list of root servers but none of the
IPAs. I did it again and got just two of the IPAs. Here's what it looked
like:

I restarted named; dig; I received a complete list. Does named need to
be routinely flushed?
