He can switchback to the X terminal by typing ctrl-alt-f7 (or f8 or whichever one it was running on). Someone already mentioned this earlier on the list. Now if he really exited X by doing ctrl-alt-backspace or "telinit 3", then startx will start a new X session or X server or whatever the terminology is. > > On Wed, 9 Mar 2005 11:21:25 -0600, Matthew Benjamin > <msbenjamin@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: >> That works, now one more question how can I get back to the GUI? >> >> -----Original Message----- >> From: jim lawrence [mailto:fedorajim@xxxxxxxxx] >> Sent: Wednesday, March 09, 2005 11:15 AM >> To: For users of Fedora Core releases >> Subject: Re: Fedora Core 3 (exiting the GUI desktop) >> >> On Wed, 9 Mar 2005 11:02:26 -0600, Matthew Benjamin >> <msbenjamin@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: >> > >> > Can someone tell me a key combination to exit the GUI desktop on Core3 >> >> > and go straight to command line? >> > >> ALT CNTRL F1 will put you into init:3 >> >> if you only want the terminal all the time >> >> change your /etc/inittab >> >> id:5:initdefault: change to >> >> id:3:initdefault: >> >> -- >> >> Jim Lawrence >> Registered Linux User: #376813 >> ******************************************************** >> When I'm feeling down, I like to whistle. >> It makes the neighbor's dog run to the end of his chain and gag himself. >> ************************************ >> >> -- >> fedora-list mailing list >> fedora-list@xxxxxxxxxx >> To unsubscribe: http://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-list >> >> -- >> fedora-list mailing list >> fedora-list@xxxxxxxxxx >> To unsubscribe: http://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-list >> > >
