you using a desktop or notebook? 
go to 
applicatins --->system settings--->server settings--- services 
enter root paswrd 

this lists out the processes that get started at boot and some that
continue running

Questions   
Do you run  any cron jobs?  
if no,  trn those off 
Do you  do printing ?  
if no, turn off cups 
File sharring between 2 pcs?  
turn off smb 
there are a few more 
google the process and read about them  
then determine whether you want it on or not,  if your not sure  ask about them
