The ATrpms package is just newer (alsa version 1.0.6, as opposed to
1.0.3). To get arecord, simply do "ln /usr/bin/aplay /usr/bin/arecord".

Hrmm, I just noticed that ATrpms has gone up to alsa version 1.0.8, and
does include a (soft) link from aplay to arecord now... Sorry for the
confusion.

Indeed. I don't quite remember why I ended up getting the ATrpms
package. I had some troubles recording at first, but I believe they
might have been due to me not quite figuring out the right alsa-mixer
settings (un-muting the capture device)...
