Oh, I am sorry I did not realize that tar can do it with CD/DVD burners and not just with tapes. Will it split the data automatically through several DVDs the same way it does it with tapes?
I think the suggestion was to split your files into DVD-size chunks manually and then use cdrecord to write those chunks to DVD. Just not using the ISO format.
