mplayer suddenly stops playing dvd

I am having a strange problem with mplayer - it stops playing dvd
after some time. Here is a sample error message after it played a dvd
for about an hour:

Does anyone have any clue?
I am running MPlayer 1.0pre6-3.4.2 on a Toshiba laptop.
