Ah ha... A bit more googling and I found "linux nofb"... Im kinda understanding what I was supposed to be doing now... I'll try the install the way you (and the release notes which I should of read first) recommended.... Hmmmm.... One difference is that it didn't detect the monitor type with nofb (it did before) - so don't know if I'll need to change something after the install. Much more worrying though is that Im ** still ** getting the bad repainting problems during the install....
