When I got this error - I needed a new 'system board' for my Thinkpad.
You can boot to WinXP - and see if it works in usb-2 mode. [I got
errors from winxp as well]

Workarround is to disable usb-2 [and use only usb-1]

i.e 'modprobe -r ehci_hcd'
