NNTP (again): Pan moved from Core to Extras?

I'm still trying to find clarification/confirmation on this matter, so
if anyone can enlighten me further that would be great. However, given
the very long recent discussion here about the problems of mailing
lists, and how many of us would prefer to use NNTP, I was surprised that
it *appears* that Pan has been moved from Core to Extras for FC4 and
onwards. The default FC desktop is GNOME, and Evolution's support for
NNTP is primitive at best. Thunderbird is a more polished NNTP client,
but it still lacks many of the kinds of abilities that I'd expect from a
proper newsreader (or did last time I tried it). In other words, whilst
we're all asking for NNTP the default and only full-featured NNTP client
has been dropped from Core! Tell me I've got the wrong end of the stick
please!
