FC3 running 2.6.10-1.760_FC3smp
Sound card: Trident 4DWave DX
System: Dell SC420 P4 2.8GHZ 512MB etc...
alsa* installed and updated
Kudzu recognized my sound card at first boot. modprobe.conf was
configured accordingly. When I run system-config-soundcard I see the
correct hardware detected. However, I cannot play a test sound. It
errors on the attempt. I'm unable to run alsamixer because the device
isn't found.

Is there an 'on board'sound chip,if so disable in the BIOS
Check 'lsmod' for Alsa and Trident loaded modules
