There is something odd about running applications from an NFS mounted drive with the 2.6 kernels. Some applications cause the system to slow down and become 'choppy' as you describe. But only some applications. I have not quite nailed the problem yet but I did report this bugzilla: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/beta/show_bug.cgi?id=145401 The bug is called "slowdown when running programs from NFS mount". -- Norman Gaywood, Systems Administrator School of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science University of New England, Armidale, NSW 2351, Australia norm@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Phone: +61 (0)2 6773 2412 http://turing.une.edu.au/~norm Fax: +61 (0)2 6773 3312 Please avoid sending me Word or PowerPoint attachments.
