What kind of HP laptop is this? Is it by chance a zv5000 series laptop? Does it have an nVidia graphics card? By "unreadable" do you mean completely scrambled with blurred text flying across the screen (for lack of a better description)? I have a Compaq R3000 (the HP version is the zv5000) and had the same problem with the nv driver. Using the nvidia binary driver fixes the issue. If you just want to use the nv driver, I think using a framebuffer will also fix the issue, but I haven't tried that. Please post more details about your hardware and setup, specifically video chipset, driver used, and relevant xorg.conf stuff if you want a better answer. Jonathan
