Cards with prism chipsets seem to be supported in the kernel. Atheros chipsets can use the MadWifi drivers, they need to be installed.

I had trouble finding a plain "g" card, but bought a Netgear 108mbps (super-g) card with an atheros chipset in the end. I think that some d-link cards use the prism chipsets, but couldn't tell you which ones. Try googling for those.
