FC2: System hangs at "Configuring kernel parameters"

Hello, we are running Fedora Core 2 on some Dell GX280's.  The
2.6.9-1.11 kernel works fine, but the 2.6.10-1.9 and the 2.6.10-1.12
both make the system hang at boot time at the point where it says
"Configuring kernel parameters".

The system has integrated video, not Nvidia.  There is no unusual
hardware in them.  This is happening to all of our GX280s and to one of
our Precision 670s as well.  Any ideas what is making the system hang?
