Why not use, say, "rpmbuild" instead? Why chown system directories like /usr/src/redhat/* instead of just creating an rpm-build tree in the user's home directory? ------James' Reply----- (Stupid Web Mail system, I wish they would fix it.) Paul and David: I just tried to build the 2.6.11-rc3 kernel and it took about 1GB of space. I don't think we have user home directories with that amount of space (at least I don't). I am using a special partition to build my kernels in and that has plenty of space for kernel builds. That might be a better suggestion. Also, I agree, nobody is a special user and some folks have disabled/disallowed actions by this user. Paul's suggestion of 'rpmbuild' is a good one. -- James McKenzie A Proud User of Linux!
