why does the command >> # etc/host.conf give this? >> bash: /etc/host.conf: Permission denied
does that mean that i have no hosts to list?
ditto with # /etc/resolv.conf
aren't they supposed to return the current ip addresses?
$cat /etc/hosts will give you the list of hosts $cat resolv.conf will show you your dns entries amd ifconfig will show you your interfaces
if you're just putting the name of the file without a command, you won't get anything :-)
may i suggest a quick look at www.tldp.org for some basic how-to & manuals
