There are several questions I have since the "100 percent linux" thread came up.Yes, you can... Not all applications use, mind you, since the middle mouse button in X is usually used to paste selected text from one source to a destination (for instance, suppose you have a URL highlighted in a console and by pressing middle mouse in firefox or mozilla it gets pasted and your browser directed there). In firefox you can disable this X feature and add the middle click vertical displacement arrows... I THINK the options are under preferences-->advanced-->browsing-->autoscrolling and use smooth scrolling (never understood what was this). In anycase you will have to change the middle-mouse paste action in one of the about:config options, I just don't remember which. You can leave it on and still have the best of both actions (double middle click would be paste in that case).
I have 2 linux boxes, one running RH9 and one running FC 3, and a couple of windows boxes.
My questions, 1: is there a way to get the mouse to a: automatically jump to the "preferred" option box? and b: is there a way to get the mouse to scroll by clicking the middle wheel and moving the mouse, i.e. the little circle with arrows in it? I know these are "extra" drivers that came with my logitec mouse on the windows machines...heaven knows that Ms would not add any extra functionallity if they did not have to. I think they eventually did add the click and drag somewhere around 98 SE, but it only worked with Ms products...
This is a handy idea, especially when I run into a web page scripted in 800 x 600 format when my native resolution is higher. I usually do a ctrl, alt, +, leaving the scroll bar off the screen to the right.
As support for this feature, it is already included in Xorg with the IMPS/2 protocol of the mouse driver (see your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file in Section "InputDevice".
What do you mean by this? that if this is a known feature and you want a database of supported mice to look at? I'm sorry but I think I fail to understand this question... If this is what I just said, then pretty much all wheel mice will support this via the IMPS/2 protocol of the mouse driver (IM stands for Intelli Mouse)2: Is this database available on line as a searchable database? There is a lot of info here and I don't have time to read all the input.
Thanks
