Sometimes too many options are confusing :)
Will just try and answer your queries in as short a manner as possible.

* mp3 does not play.
mp3 is patented and as such FC3 does not come with a mp3 decoder :(
xmms is the linux equivalent of winamp ( you can even use winamp2 skins
with it, but not winamp 5). Download the rpms from www.xmms.org . They
have the mp3 decoders.
Install them with rpm -Uvh xmms-<whatever>.rpm
If you get some message like version is older than what is installed.
you may need to erase (rpm -e xmms) the existing version, and install
again.

* ogg
Another compression algo like mp3 but non patented - and hence free!
Using CDRipper you can rip to mp3 or ogg from CDs. I have been ripping
my cds to ogg for last 1 yr - and it plays with winamp too. Most people
don't even know about it. I guess in my office of the 100 employees only
I knew about it.

* movies
http://www.xinehq.de . Download xine-lib and xine-ui and install. Follow
instructions on the page. Plays almost every movie format.

* yum
Not using it. Usually I work at home on linux, and I don't have an
internet connection. So I just download the rpms at office and go home
and work with those.

ciao
Vibhu..
