XMMS is ancient and barely maintained let alone updated.

I don't know of any media players that support gnome-vfs.  beep-media-
player and totem would be obvious candidates but they don't seem to
support it currently.  

It seems rather silly to me that so few programs bother to use gnome-
vfs.  Maybe there's a good reason that I've not heard.  Almost nothing
seems to support gnome-vfs completely.  Even gedit opens gnome-vfs files
read-only.  That's the one program I'd expect to bend over backward to
support gnome-vfs.

Oh well, I love the nautilus "connect to server" feature and use SSH to
transfer files between every machine I have an account on.  I don't even
bother with NFS or SMB any more.  I'd be thrilled if every major GNOME
application supported gnome-vfs.
