Have you checked the physical connectivity (e.g. tried swapping round patch leads)? Can any two other machines on the 10.x.x.x network talk to each other?

should better look the distros, it's an ancient suse 8.0 with yast, it seems, as the firewall just allows one single external card....please don^t flame me :-)
