Un*x used to have relative paths, but these are pretty useless if you
don't know the current path.

The current save dialog - at least in gimp - does not even preserve the
path used in the last save operation. You have to locate the folder for
every file to be saved.

Being able to select path and filename with the mouse and then modify
the file name (e.g. increment some count) was a big plus.

All together I think this new dialog is a very big step backwards :-(
