Multiple points and I am NOT trying to hijack the thread.

I did mention gyum.  :)  

I like the look and feel of the installation gui from Fedora and the
Add/Remove Apps tool.  Both however feel incomplete without a yum or
synaptics tie-in.

What repos have smart and smart-gui?  Do they have a lot of
dependencies that replace core libs?  If not I might be enabling a
repo and pulling it down to try.
