I updated my system using YUM yesterday. After rebooting the system, postgresql will not start. I get the following error in /var/log/messages:
Jan 13 20:02:43 wayfarer kernel: audit(1105668163.042:0): avc: denied { read } for pid=20721 exe=/usr/bin/postgres name=PG_VERSION dev=hda4 ino=3312466 scontext=root:system_r:postgresql_t tcontext=root:object_r:var_lib_t tclass=file
Jan 13 20:02:44 wayfarer postgresql: Starting postgresql service: failed
I've done some googling, but haven't come across anything explaining this error. I *think* it's a SELinux error, but am not sure. Is there anyone out there that can explain this error, and more importantly, how to fix it?
I was right. This is related to SELinux. I was able to get postgresql working by disabling SELinux's authority over postgresql using system-config-securitylevel. This isn't the best solution, but it works.
