Subject: Text Files
Hello All.
I use gedit and text files for creating log/journal files for different projects I work on.
I do not save them with an ext. of txt I just save them. and it appears that it is in UTF-8.
I also travel with my log files on my thumb drive. And when I open them on a winXP machine the files do not appear as txt files. And when I open them in notepad I get a odd charater where each space would appear....
How/which format should I save my txt files in in order to move them around and be able to read them?
Also.. under xp in a txt file if the first line has '.LOG' in it .. each time it opens the date is entered. This is nice for journalling on different projects.
Please advise. T
I've had really good luck saving my *nix text files with a .wri extension. When I open them under XP they open with WordPad which seems to display them correctly.
