First of all I would like to wish all a very Happy and Healthy New Year. Now to the problem at hand. I have a server box which is a Tyan S2880 dual Opteron 244 motherboard without any add on cards. I have attempted to install FC3 i86_64, but have run into a snag. The install boot stops with a kernel panic - not syncing. (BTW, this happens with SuSE 9.1 64bit too! Hint hint... nudge nudge...) So not knowing if the network admin supplied give it a try AS install disks contained a 64bit install, I gave them a try and the first disk went straight to the first graphics window of the install without any issues. Of course by then I thought about it and figured that there wasn't a 64bit install on the disk. So then I tried the FC3 i386 install and it went in flawless. Until I tried booting with the 2.6.9-1.667smp kernel, then I get "kernel panic - not syncing. Try passing init= " message. If I boot the non-smp kernel everything works just fine. Any suggestions for the smp kernel? Any suggestions for the 64bit install issue? (Also already tried acpci=off at the install prompt.) Thanks, Bill Cronk
