Alexander; It was a new install on an existing RH9 filesystem - in other words; I did not reformat the drives. Otherwise everything is fresh. I know this breaks windows often, but I was hoping I wouldn't have the same problem with linux. I needed to save some things of the drive. I can FTP them, which is going to be a growling process, but ohh well..
