From one rookie to another:
During installation, Fedora will suggest you a partition scheme for the HD. Accept that.
I thought I was smarter and could do the partitions by myself. Fedora suggests a scheme based on LVM, which I thought "I have just one HD, so I don't need it..." - big mistake! It turns out that LVM is useful even for single HD machines. I made a mistake when choosing partition sizes, and there was no easy way to correct it. With the suggested scheme you should have better control of your partitions even after the install.
