Not knowing what your initi script looks like.. but you probably need to replace the piece that runs your command with :

/bin/su user -c "command"

Subject: init script

Hi everyone. I made up my own init script for an IM server, just wondering how I can set it to run as a user instead of root? If I log into the user who is going to run it, the server runs fine, and it runs fine as root, but for security reasons I want to run it as another user. Is there a way I can do this in the init script?

Thanks,
