Perhaps whatever it is that adds the silly disclaimer on your outbound messages is also responsible for converting them to HTML?

I don't think so, since I see <tags> within the body. This time, I've selected 'Options | Format | Plain Text Only' from the Thunderbird 'Compose' menu. I appreciate everyone's patience as I try to figure this out.
