I would say there is no reason why the communication with LMTP between
Sendmail and the Cyrus-IMAPd rather than using i.e. procmail + deliver
would affect the usage of aliases.

ah, ok, i was just thinking on another mta, i use postfix, there you
have to use virtual instead of aliases using lmtp. sorry!
