How do other people on modem connections handle the situation? I've been using d4x (Download for X) for large file downloads, as it can restart the download if I'm disconnected.
few points
* install *only* what you require
* fedoranews.org has announcements for every update. security fixes are tagged as such. there are other bug fixes and other feature updates may not be applicable to you.
* you can subscribe to this list http://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-announce-list for getting updates on your email
My experience at home with yum and dialup is, as stated above, only install/upgrade what you really need to, and find something else to do for an hour or so.
