Most programs allow you to specify a width and height when you launch them. if you run "mozilla --help" you will see that there are -height and -width options. Otherwise I think session management takes care of that (i.e. remember the size of the window when you close it), and that is what you have been trying until now.
mozilla works fine now. it remembers. but there are other app i noticed will not remember. i'm using gnome, and let's take nautilus. it doesn't remember.
