No sound on laptop after FC1->FC3 upgrade

Summary:

IBM Thinkpad A22p with Cirrus Logic CS 4614/22/24 [CrystalClear
SoundFusion Audio Accelerator] chip. Worked fine under FC1. After
upgrading to FC3, I get no sound output at all from RealPlayer 8.0-1, or
anything else.

Diagnostics:

* Running Sound & Video --> Volume Control generates this error:

  Sorry, no mixer elements and/or devices found

* I can drag the slider in the volume control from the tool bar up, but
as soon as I let go it snaps back to the bottom.

* The old /etc/modules.conf file contained:

  ...
  alias sound-slot-0 cs46xx
  post-install sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc \
    -L >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
  pre-remove sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc \
    -S >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
  ...

* The new /etc/modprobe.conf file contains:

  ...
  alias snd-card-0 snd-cs46xx
  install sound-slot-0 /sbin/modprobe --first-time --ignore-install \
    sound-slot-0 && { /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -L \
    >/dev/null 2>&1 || :; }
  remove sound-slot-0 { /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -S \
    >/dev/null 2>&1 || :; } ; /sbin/modprobe -r --first-time \
    --ignore-remove sound-slot-0
  options snd-card-0 index=0
  install cs46xx /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install cs46xx &&  \
    /usr/sbin/alsactl restore >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
  remove cs46xx { /usr/sbin/alsactl store >/dev/null 2>&1 || \
    : ; }; /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove cs46xx
  ...

* All the executables called in modprobe.conf exist.

Can anyone suggest a solution?
