Maybe I'm being dense? I'm thinking in the realms of ftp
For arguments sake lets say I want Flashplayer I ftp to the site drill down to the relevant folder select the file then start the download process.
If I read your advice correctly your saying do btdownloadgui.py --url http://www.macromedia.com/support/flashplayer
I was hoping it would give you a visual ability to pick and choose what you wanted rather than a specific selection, this is what I meant by 'Know what you want'
Maybe its not for me but thanks for all your help I do appreciate it.
Perhaps you're confused about what BitTorrent is? It's not a generic download tool. It's used to distribute large files (e.g. ISO images) by getting all the downloading clients to upload bits of the file to each other. It requires a special file called a "torrent" (typically having a filename ending in .torrent) that describes the segments of the files, contains checksums etc. and points the BitTorrent client to a server where it can find details of where to get the file(s).
For example, torrents for Fedora Core distributions can be found at: http://torrent.dulug.duke.edu/
So you point your regular web browser at the site containing the torrents and the specialised BitTorrent clients kicks in when you hit a .torrent link to do the download.
