and by adopting the same look and feel gnome would forever be called a
cheap clone. it hardly takes five minutes to rearrange the panel and
make it look like windows. it just isnt the default setup.

Gnome *does* need a unique look and feel by *default*

do you have any complains on fedora that isnt really an upstream change?
