I have experiencing a loss of ln -s /dev/ttyS0 /dev/pilot and chmod 666
settings from time to time. What could be causing this? I did upgrade to
the new kernel today, but how could this cause these settings to be
reset?

i have the same drouble, i have installed FC3 today. i have updated the
whole system (kernel 2.6.9-1.681_FC3, udev 039-10.FC3.2) now i am able
to
connect to my palm t3 (over /dev/pilot) but after a few seconds i get
disconnected :-(.

i have disabled gnome-pilot stuff and tested it with pilot-xfer -i but
there is the same drouble. i get some data then someone (palm or pc)
disconnects me an i get an error message on my palm.
