I'm experiencing the same thing: I had no trouble the first time
(maybe two) that I connected it, but now -- nothing.  I get the same
emssages as you.  Before, it mounted automatically and "just worked". 
Nothing in my configuration changed in between.  I'm stumped, and I
don't want to admit defeat and use USB (unless I have to).
