I don't think his question is actually related to the problem.

His ssh session displays localhost and not the actual hostname.
AFAIK this is the default when using ssh with X-forwarding. It uses
"localhost:10.0" as the display, thus the prompt displays localhost.

I have not seen that when using ssh with a standard terminal.

His solution seems likely to be related to something in X or ssh and not
simply the system network/hostname settings.
