Why? redhat-release is just fine and the default, because:
$ rpm --query --whatprovides redhat-release fedora-release-2-4
Yes, you're right. I misunderstood what yum was doing, assuming that:
$ rpm -q redhat-release package redhat-release is not installed
would cause problems, but it doesn't.
