Have you changed your PATH from the default? The system config tools will not function properly if you prepend /usr/sbin to a normal user's PATH.
Nope, no /usr/sbin or any path with /sbin in it. I think it happened after
I did an apt-get dist-upgrade but have no idea what might have been done.
