Yes, but only if you installed your partitions using LVM. The link to the HOWTO is below:

Then, a simple e2fsadm -L +/- <size> /dev/<volgroup>/<volname> will resize the partition. Using -L with a negative number will return free space to the volume group, and -L with a negative number chews up that free space. lvdisplay will show you how much space is currently available in your partition. Actually, you won't be able to resize your root partition in this manner, as your root partition should be outside the LVM.
