Before you give up - you could try a couple of things:

1. redo rpmdb
rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__db*
rpm --rebuilddb

2. verify the installed pacakges to be correct.

rpm -Va

3. Try removing gimp again

4. try up2date and see if it works

up2date-nox -u

5 bugzilla yum with this problem.
